Day 9 - January 11, 2025 - Saturday - Honolulu, Hawaii

We arrived in Honolulu Harbor just before 8:00 AM.  Having visited the area several times, we elected not to do any tours.  In fact, I believe we have already seen all of the typical "tourist" attractions offered on the tours.  Instead we took the first complimentary shuttle from the ship to Waikiki.  The girls need to pick up a few things and we visited the beach.

Oahu is the third-largest and most populous of the Hawaiian islands.  Almost 70% of the people of Hawaii live on Oahu and the majority live in Honolulu.  For me personally, this make Oahu my least favorite of all the Hawaiian islands I have visited.  Don't get me wrong, it is beautiful and certainly has some sites which you should definitely see, Pearl Harbor and Diamond Head to name a couple.  There are also some amazing museums.  For me though, its just large and busy.  I much prefer the more laid back islands of Kauai (which we visit tomorrow) and the big island of Hawaii.

Carl, getting ready for his surf lesson

I'm not sure which one is Carl, but he's out there somewhere (just kidding)

Just a couple of views of Waikiki Beach

View of Diamond Head

The following three photos of Diamond Head are from a previous visit

It is a fairly strenuous, but enjoyable hike to the summit.

SPAM, the unofficial favorite food of Hawaii!

The Aloha Tower in the Harbor.  This lighthouse was erected in 1926 and was the tallest building in the islands for four decades.

For dinner I had a delightful "seafood pie".  My best description would be to think of an Irish Shepard Pie made with shrimp, scallops and fish instead of lamb and beef.  It was delicious and creamy with browned cream potatoes on top.

After dinner we attend a show in the theater which was performed by a local family.  It presented beautiful hula and other traditional dancing as well as song and humor.  We all enjoyed the show.  I was asleep when the ship left port, sometime after 10:00 PM

The harbor at night.

Tomorrow morning we arrive in the port of Nawiliwili, Kauai.

Until then....
