After breakfast this morning, we went directly to the Star Theater for another lecture from Patrick Goodness. This one was entitled "The Ancient Religions, Rites and Rituals of the Polynesian Islands"
As usual, Patrick gave an excellent lecture. His lectures seem to be one of the best attended.
In keeping with my commitment to fitness 😉, I opted to forgo elevators entirely (as I do on most cruises), relying solely on stairs as part of my exercise routine. This decision has turned out to be quite a workout! The number of steps between floors varies; lower levels have about 22 steps per flight, while upper levels have 16. Typically, we don’t venture below Deck 1, which houses specialty restaurants, a spa, and a gym. On excursion days, we go down one more deck to A Deck. Climbing from A Deck to our cabin deck (Deck 6) totals 111 steps—a solid workout indeed! I would say today is a typical day and I have counted a total of 28 flights of stairs today (532 steps at an average of 19 steps per flight). That along makes me feel a little better about all the wonderful food and drinks I am consuming. In the past, Kay has always done stairs only, but since her atrial valve replacement this summer, she sometimes takes the elevator or more often she will just stop after 2 or 3 levels, circle around and then do the remaining levels.
We learned this evening that due to a medical emergency, we would miss our next port of Bora Bora, on Saturday and sail directly to Papeete, Tahiti. Apparently the emergency could not be delt with on the smaller island of Bora Bora. We will spend all day Saturday in Papeete and then sail to Moorea Sunday morning, spend the day and then sail BACK to Papeete Sunday evening and stay until 5:00 PM on Monday. Thankfully, the islands are close enough that even for a large ship it only takes a couple hour to go between them. This was not a terrible disappointment for us since we have visited all of these islands before.
Until tomorrow...
