Days 69, 70 & 71 - March 13, 14 & 15 - Thursday, Friday & Saturday - Indian Ocean

It has been a quiet three day at sea.  The weather has been fantastic, calm seas, little wind and moderate temperatures (highs in the 80's).

Dawn on Thursday

The culinary team had a special treat at lunch for those of us who are tuna lovers.

I had tuna prepared four different ways, ceviche, seared in butter and in two different types of croquettes.  The seared was my favorite, but they were all delicious.  If you haven't ever had tuna that was only a few hours from the sea, I can't possibly explain how delicious this was.

Friday morning brought another beautiful sunrise.  Having turned our clocks back another hour, you have to rise early to capture the sunrise.  On sea days I am usually on Deck 8 around 5:30 AM to get my walking done while it is mostly deserted, and the temperature is pleasant.

The seas on Friday were the calmest I have seen since on this voyage.  The ocean looked like the Carribean on a good day.  It was difficult to believe we had almost 3 miles of water under us.

And finally, Saturday morning brought another beautiful sunrise.

The added bonus was the almost full moon.

During the past three days we have enjoyed several excellent lectures including "The origin of the Coconut", a lecture I didn't have high expectations of, but found it fascinating.

This was followed by "Coffee, Tea...and Opium?", explaining how these three commodities shaped East Africa and Asia and lead to two wars.

Dr. Babcock presented a symposium on "The Meaning of Life" to throw in a little philosophy.

And finally on Friday Richard Lovelock, the ship naturalist and nature photographer gave an excellent presentation on "The Big Five: Africa's Iconic Wildlife".  Again, although I knew I would love his photographs, I was surprised how much information and history was presented.

The remain time was filled in by entertainment, films and of course eating.  We also had a "Port Talk" about our next destination the Seychelles Islands, where we arrive tomorrow morning.
