Today, Friday, we were scheduled to be in Zanzibar, Tanzania but as I explained in an earlier post, this port was cancelled due to a chorea outbreak. Instead, we spent a third day in Mombasa. The ship had arranged some additional excursions, but after our full day yesterday, we were happy to just have a day to relax and not be back in the Mombasa traffic. We did leave the ship to visit some of the vendors who were set up on the pier, but otherwise it was a quiet day.
Bird of the Day (actually left over from yesterday)
While going back thru my photos, I noticed this fellow on one of my elephant photos. He is quite nicely displayed, and he is a northern carmine bee-eater.

Dr. Bryan Babcock gave an excellent lecture on the history and development of Madagascar.
Sunrise on Sunday the 23rd
I got this photo of one of the boobies as he made a dive into the water. This is the first time I have been able to actually see the red feet.
Tomorrow, Monday, we arrive in Madagascar. Actually, we are tendering on the island of Nosy Be. It is an island off the northwest coast of Madagascar. Nosy Be is Madagascar's largest and busiest tourist destination. It has an area of 125 sq mi, and its population was 109,465 according to the provisional results of the 2018 Census. Nosy Be actually means "big island" in the Malagasy language.
