Our room stewards left us a nice Easter gift!
Today is Easter Sunday and we are in the North Atlantic heading to the Canary Islands. We are currently about 300 miles off the coast of Africa near the country of Mauritania. I went on deck for my morning walk, but the ship was moving about 20mph into a headwind of 20mph. Although the temperature was a pleasant 72 degrees; the wind was not amenable to a walk.
We attended an interdenominational Easter service in the Star Theater. It was organized and executed by a group on fellow travelers. It was a very nice service with good attendance, probably around 150 persons. There had been an earlier Mass service also organized by fellow passengers.
Celebrating Easter while traveling made me think about past Easters we were out of the country.
Easter Sunday 2015 we were in Israel. We visited Masada.
The next Friday, in Meteora, Greece we celebrated the Greek Orthodox Good Friday with the locals. The Greek Orthodox and Christian Easter is observed on different dates. It was an event I will never forget. After the service, all the worshipers in Meteora filed out of the churches and walked in mass to the town square where festivities continued.
On the Greek Easter Sunday, two days later, we were in Delphi, Greece. I remember getting up and looking out our hotel window and think the town was on fire. It was only the traditional wood coals roasted lamb being prepared for the Easter celebration.
We later visited the Dendera Temples which were magnificent.
Tomorrow is our last sea day before a long run of port days.
If anything interesting transpires tomorrow, I will update this post, otherwise my next post will be in the Canary Islands on Tuesday.
