I was up early this morning so I could get the sunrise as well as the sail into Sydney. The sunrise was magnificent this morning so I am sharing several sunrise photos.
After the sunrise, we had a beautiful sale into Sydney Harbor. We are docking at White Cruise Harbor. It past the Opera house and the Sydney Bridge. I can now appreciate how lucky we were in 2015 to dock in Circular Quay, next to the Sydney Opera House. It appears they are no longer docking any cruise ships in Circular Quay.
Almost as soon as we docked, a fuel tanker appeared next to our ship. This was just under our veranda. I enjoyed watching the crew maneuver and secure the tanker before starting the transfer of fuel. It took about an hour before the fueling could begin.
We did the included Harbor Cruise tour this morning. First we had to have a face to face with an immigration agent. This is the first country this was necessary. Afterword, we boarded a large harbor ship with a capacity of about 1000. There were 350 of us and it still seemed crowded. The 2 hour harbor tour was about 10 miles total.
I will just present some photos from the cruise.
These were some really nice homes.
Here are people doing the Sky Bridge Walk. This 3 hour activity involves dressing is special coveralls, being fastened into a safety harness to walk up about 1400 steps to the top of the Sydney Bridge. To do this requires a fee of about $200.
After returning to the Cruise terminal, we boarded a water shuttle which Viking is providing for our entire stay. It operates every 30 minutes and runs between the Cruise Terminal and Circular Quay and takes about 20 minutes. We planned to walk from Circular Quay to The Wildlife Sydney Zoo. It is about 1 mile. We had been told that the shuttle would dock at Circular Quay Warf #4. But, we didn't. The shuttle end point was at Man of War Steps, East Jetty on the other side of the Opera House. This added an extra half mile to our walk in each direction. This is another example of Viking's excursion department not being full informed having good communications.
We did eventually reach the Zoo, and it was worth the walk. It is not a large zoo, but it contain most of the Australian iconic animals.
Tree Kangaroo
This is a Wombat. The image is off color because, the wombat sleeps 20 hours a day and it was displayed under very dark red light.
It was a surprise that we ran into 3 of the 4 Viking Vocalist as well as the assistant Cruise Director.
When we arrived back at the Cruise Terminal we were all pretty exhausted. We had a couple of hours to recover before dinner.
Another day in Sydney tomorrow with a 4 hour tour beginning at 8:15. I'll see you later.
